By default, Mention Me enrols each customer into your programme immediately after their purchase. This is a deliberate design choice, not a fallback: showing the referral offer to every customer at their moment of highest satisfaction maximises the reach of word-of-mouth, since every satisfied customer gets the chance to share their experience and bring in new customers.

Why Post-Purchase Is the Default

Enrolling everyone at post-purchase keeps the funnel as wide as possible. Customers who might never have gone looking for a referral offer are shown one anyway, at a point when they are naturally well disposed towards your brand. Restricting enrolment to only those customers who actively seek out the offer means missing this larger group entirely.

Opt-In Enrolment as an Alternative

You can change this default so that customers are enrolled only when they actively engage with your offer, for example by clicking a specific button or by choosing to share it. This narrows enrolment to customers who have shown genuine interest, which can lead to more meaningful engagement from the group that does enrol, at the cost of a smaller overall pool of referrers. Which approach suits you depends on whether you value maximum reach or a more selectively engaged referrer base.
Switching between automatic and opt-in enrolment is a configuration change made on your account, not something you set yourself in the platform. Raise a support ticket and our team will help you make the change.
