At a glance
- Measure product links customers share naturally with friends
- See visits, orders and revenue connected to shared links
- Understand which products generate word of mouth
- Identify known customers who influence product discovery
- Track organic sharing without requiring enrolment or a reward
How it works
- A customer visits a product page. Mention Me prepares the page link so a later share can be recognised.
- They share it in the way they normally would. That might be WhatsApp, a message, email or a copied link.
- A friend follows the shared link. Mention Me connects the visit to the product-sharing journey.
- A later purchase identifies the customer. Where the journey can be matched, the activity becomes part of Product Referral reporting.
Product Referral and Brand Referral do different jobs
Brand Referral is designed to encourage acquisition through a structured referral journey, usually with a reward or offer. Product Referral is an attribution capability that measures organic sharing around individual products. It does not claim that Mention Me created the behaviour or that every attributed order is incremental. The two views complement each other: one helps drive a referral action, while the other reveals recommendations happening outside that journey.
Identify products that generate organic sharing
Product Referral reporting can show product-sharing views, orders, revenue and average order value, alongside the type of share that started the journey. This helps answer questions that sales data alone cannot:- Which products are recommended more often than their sales ranking suggests?
- How much product-page traffic begins with a shared link?
- Which known customers create valuable product-sharing journeys?
- Does a launch or campaign change what customers recommend to friends?
A useful signal for products and customers
A product that ranks tenth for sales may rank first for sharing, providing a different signal for merchandising and launch teams. A customer who repeatedly drives shared-link visits may also represent stronger advocacy than a customer identified through spend alone. Product Referral provides this additional behavioural signal for merchandising, CRM and marketing teams.Limits to know
Product Referral connects journeys using browser and device signals. A share that moves across substantially different devices may not always be linked. A visible share button is optional. Tracking works without it. Availability and setup depend on your ecommerce platform and account configuration. Some Product Referral metrics are available in the updated Reporting experience, with more being added.Connect the recommendation to the resulting visit
Shared-link visits are no longer unattributed. You can see the product that started the conversation and, where the journey can be matched, what happened afterwards. This does not replace Brand Referral or prove that every order was incremental. It adds evidence about the recommendations customers make outside a formal referral journey.Follow one shared product from link to order

See how Product Referral recognises a shared link, connects later activity and presents the result in reporting. Product Referral launched in February 2026.
