## The Channels

| Channel | What it is, and when it works well |
| ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Name search** | The referee redeems by searching the referrer's name, with no link or message needed. Captures offline, in-conversation word of mouth. On average it delivers around 34% of new customers, and up to 77% for some brands. |
| **Native share** | Opens the device's built-in share menu, so referrers can share via any app, including Instagram. Strong on mobile; has added 5-15% to share rate in tests. |
| **Email** | Sends the invitation from the referrer's email client. Direct and traceable. |
| **Direct link / Referral code** | Copy a link or code to paste anywhere. Flexible: the referrer chooses their own channel. |
| **WhatsApp / SMS**                                     | Personal, immediate and mobile-first.                                                                                                                                                                                     |
| **Facebook / Facebook Messenger / Twitter (X) / LINE** | Reach into a wider social network.                                                                                                                                                                                        |

## Setting Up Channels

For each device, drag channels into the selected list and reorder them. Each device has a maximum number of slots.

Don't offer everything. Picking a few high-performing channels for your audience usually beats showing every option, which can overwhelm customers and dilute your strongest routes. Performance varies by sector and device, so this is a good thing to A/B test.

<Note>
  Referrals from Name search and similar word-of-mouth routes often aren't visible in tools like Google Analytics (they show as direct or search traffic). Mention Me identifies them by matching the customer, so they are still attributed as referrals.
</Note>

<Note>
  The Sharing section can be A/B tested, for example reducing the number of channels or adding WhatsApp on mobile. See [set up an A/B test](/knowledge-v2/referral/campaigns/ab-testing/set-up-an-ab-test).
