# Campaign Settings and Gaming Control

> Adjust a campaign's URLs, email and advanced options, pause or resume it, and configure how referrals are scored and reviewed for fraud.

The **Settings** menu at the top of the editor is where you manage the campaign as a whole: its settings, its gaming and fraud controls, and whether it is paused.

## Campaign Settings

Open **Settings > Campaign settings** to adjust common options. Changes apply to the whole campaign.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Campaign Settings">
    In the editor, open the **Settings** menu and choose **Campaign settings**.

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Adjust the Settings You Need">
    The panel is grouped into three areas:

    * **Destination URLs**. The **Call to action URL** (where the referral CTA links to) and the **Referee landing page URL** (where referees go after clicking a share link). Leave either blank to fall back to the merchant default.
    * **Email**. The **Reply-to address** for emails this campaign sends. Leave blank to use the merchant reply-to address.
    * **Advanced**. **Serve by language, not locale** (for running several sites in the same language) and **Voucher farming prevention** (restrict voucher delivery to email only when a referrer or referee looks suspicious; requires a gaming score in your approval rules).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save changes**. The button stays disabled until you make a change.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Pause or Resume a Campaign

Pausing stops the campaign from being promoted to new customers, while leaving existing referrals untouched.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Pause">
    Open the **Settings** menu and choose **Pause campaign**, then confirm. You can also pause from the campaign's row on the [campaigns list](/knowledge-v2/referral/campaigns/browse/the-campaigns-list). Existing customers' share links keep working and their friends can still sign up to the referral offer; only new promotion stops.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Resume">
    Open the **Settings** menu and choose **Resume campaign**, or click **Resume** on the paused-campaign banner at the top of the editor.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  If your account is on hold (for example a billing issue), the Resume option may be unavailable. The paused notice still shows, but without a Resume button.
</Note>

## Gaming and Fraud Controls

Open **Settings > Gaming controls** to control how referrals are scored, routed for review, and auto-declined. The dialog has three sections in the left nav.

### Understanding Gaming

Gaming is when customers try to earn referral rewards without referring genuine new customers, for example through self-referrals, fake accounts, collusion between friends, or posting links on coupon sites. A small amount is normal: across programmes, roughly 15% of referrals can look suspicious, and most brands accept a low level that still drives real purchases. The aim is to catch the worst cases without adding friction that suppresses genuine referrals.

These controls work in layers:

* **Scoring** weights the signals that make a referral look suspicious.
* **Approval rules** hold risky referrals for a human to check.
* **Auto-decline rules** reject the clearest cases automatically.

You can also limit how many rewards a single referrer or referee earns in a window (velocity), and hold rewards until a business condition is met, such as a utility supply starting or a trip completing (eligibility).

### Score

The **Gaming score weight** section sets how much each fraud signal adds to a referral's gaming score. These weights apply to the whole campaign. Signals are grouped into categories:

* **Identity overlap**. Referrer and referee share suspicious overlaps in name, address, IP or device.
* **Suspicious timing**. The referral or registration happened unusually quickly after sharing.
* **Purchase value**. The referred purchase is unusually low or high versus the average.
* **Email and referrer signals**. The email address or referrer looks suspicious.

For each signal you can toggle it on or off and set its weight in points. The combined score feeds your approval and auto-decline rules.

### Approval Rules

Approval rules decide which referrals are held for a human to check. "Referrals matching any rule are held in your Fraud Review queue for someone to approve or reject." Add a rule, choose what it checks (gaming score, activity volume, referral value, or identity signals), set the comparison and value, and save.

### Auto-Decline Rules

Auto-decline rules go a step further: "Referrals matching any rule are automatically declined, skipping manual review." Reserve these for your strongest signals. They are built the same way as approval rules.

<Tip>
  Not sure where to start? Leave the default signals enabled, then add approval rules that hold a referral when its **gaming score** is high (a common starting point is around 55 for existing customers and 49 for new customers) or when **activity volume** is unusual (for example more than 5 referrer rewards in 24 hours, or 25 in a month). Reserve auto-decline for the clearest cases, and review the held referrals regularly in [Fraud Review](/knowledge-v2/customers/fraud-review).
</Tip>

<Note>
  Approval and auto-decline rules are set per variant. If a version has more than one variant, use the variant selector to set rules that apply to each.
</Note>

Each section saves on its own (for example **Save scoring**, **Save approval rules**, **Save auto-decline rules**). If you close or switch sections with unsaved work, you are asked to discard or keep editing.

## Where Reviews Happen

Gaming controls decide how referrals are scored and routed. The actual review and approval happens in the Customers area:

* [Fraud Review](/knowledge-v2/customers/fraud-review). The queue of referrals flagged as suspicious.
* [Fraud signals reference](/knowledge-v2/customers/reference/fraud-signals). What each signal means.
* [Approval rules reference](/knowledge-v2/customers/reference/approval-rules). How rules hold referrals for review.
