# How to Pause or Resume a Campaign

> Stop promoting a campaign to new customers, and start again when you're ready.

Pausing stops a campaign from being promoted to new customers, while leaving existing referrals untouched.

    In the editor, open the **Settings** menu and choose **Pause campaign**, then confirm. You can also pause from the campaign's row on the [campaigns list](/knowledge-v2/referral/campaigns/browse/the-campaigns-list).

    Open the **Settings** menu and choose **Resume campaign**, or click **Resume** on the paused-campaign banner at the top of the editor.

<Warning>
  Pausing only stops new promotion. Existing customers' share links keep working, and their friends can still sign up to the referral offer. Pausing does not stop in-flight referrals.

<Note>
  If your account is on hold (for example a billing issue), the Resume option may be unavailable. The paused banner still shows, but without a Resume button.
