# Understanding Rewards and Vouchers

> How rewards are defined and fulfilled, how vouchers and batches keep them stocked, and where reward automation and standalone rewards fit.

A **reward** is the incentive promised for a successful referral: a type, an amount, a fulfilment method, and any approval requirements. Brand referral pairs two of them, one for the referrer and one for the referee. An incentivised product-referral campaign carries a single reward of its own, and a non-incentivised one carries none.

## How Rewards Are Fulfilled

The fulfilment method decides how the promised incentive actually reaches the customer. The two common routes are:

* **Vouchers**, drawn from batches of codes you supply.
* **Reward automation**, where a third-party provider fulfils the reward on your behalf.

A reward can also require approval before it is fulfilled, which is where the review queues come in; see [Understanding Fraud and Fraud Controls](/knowledge-app/concepts/fraud-and-gaming).

## Vouchers and Batches

A voucher is a discount code issued to a customer as their reward. Vouchers come from a **batch**: a set of codes uploaded together and drawn down as rewards are issued.

Because batches deplete, stock health is tracked per batch and per campaign: running low, expiring, or none left. A campaign whose batch runs dry cannot fulfil its promise, so the campaigns list surfaces voucher health, and the Rewards page in Settings holds the low-stock alert thresholds for referrer and referee vouchers.

## Reward Automation

Reward automation hands fulfilment to an integrated provider, useful for gift cards and incentives you do not issue yourself. Each fulfilment method of this kind maps to a provider that must be connected before use; the providers appear as cards in the Reward automation section of **Settings > Integrations**, and one provider can hold several connections. See [Understanding Reward Automation](/knowledge-app/integrations/reward-automation/overview).

## Standalone Rewards

A standalone reward is set up on its own rather than as a campaign's referrer or referee reward, with its own voucher batches. Standalone rewards are still configured in Classic; Mention Me owns only the low-stock alert thresholds for their shared batches, on the Rewards settings page.

## Drive Actions

A drive action is a reward earned for a non-purchase action you want to encourage, such as leaving a review. Drive actions are reviewed through the same approvals stream as referral rewards, so they appear in the same queues.
